The Syrah “Tellus” Falesco is born from the desire of the Cotarella family to enhance this international grape variety in Lazio. A fully achieved result judging by the profile of this red, which is exalted on the nose thanks to balanced notes that play between freshly picked fruit and spices. A bottle whose label image, crafted in 2009 for an event held at Castel Sant’Angelo, refers to the world of art, in a combination of sectors that has always seen fruitful collaborations arise. Perfect to drink now, it is a wine that can rest for a few more years before being uncorked.
The “Tellus” Falesco is a pure Syrah that comes from young vineyards, whose age is around 15 years. We are located in a soil mainly composed of sand, at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level. The care of the individual vines, characterized by limited production, allows for balanced grapes at harvest, both in terms of sugar and phenolic content. After a soft pressing, a cold maceration is carried out for 4-5 days at a controlled temperature of 18-20 degrees. Fermentation then continues, in steel for 15 days, at the end of which the wine is placed in second-pass barriques for a period of 5 months. Here, malolactic fermentation also takes place.
The red Syrah “Tellus” presents itself to the eye with a typically ruby color, conditioned by slight reflections that tend more towards violet at the rim. The nose opens with touches dominated by small forest fruits, enriched at the end of the olfactory examination by spicier sensations, where a hint of vanilla is perceived. On the palate, it is enveloping, almost silky, with a finely sculpted tannic structure, finishing with a citrus aftertaste. The hand of the legendary Cotarella is felt in this Lazio product, characterized by a decidedly interesting quality-price ratio.
