Sagrantino 'O di Colpetrone' Colpetrone 2018

The Montefalco Sagrantino ‘O di Còlpetrone’ is a red wine intense and structured made by the Umbrian estate Còlpetrone. Located in the Marcellano district, in the municipality of Gualdo Cattaneo, Còlpetrone is part of Tenute del Cerro, an extensive production reality that includes wineries scattered in prestigious Italian wine regions, such as Montepulciano, Montalcino, and, indeed, Montefalco. The Sagrantino ‘O di Còlpetrone’ is one of the latest arrivals at Còlpetrone, produced for the first time with the 2016 vintage as an expression of a single vineyard and has quickly become a great success.

‘O di Còlpetrone’ Montefalco Sagrantino Còlpetrone is produced from only Sagrantino grapes coming from a single vineyard located in the Gualdo Cattaneo area. The harvest takes place at the end of September and the bunches are then vinified in red through alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, associated with a prolonged maceration on the skins. For the subsequent aging phase, they use French oak barrels, containers in which the wine rests for at least 12 months before bottling and the further aging in glass that precedes its final commercialization.

The Montefalco Sagrantino Còlpetrone ‘O di Còlpetrone’ is a dark ruby red and consistent color with a garnet rim. From the glass emerge vivid and complex aromas of berries and spices, as well as hints of leather and tobacco due to the passage in wood. Powerful is the progression on the palate, where the powerful warmth and the imperious tannic structure are accompanied by fresh balsamic sensations. Due to its imposing structure, this Sagrantino needs to be paired with succulent and flavorful main courses, such as stews and braised dishes of red meats or game.
