This red Ornello takes its name from one of the symbols of rural life in the Tuscan Maremma. The ornello is indeed the name of the long stick used, even today, by the butteri to gather and move the livestock. Rocca di Frassinello, a production reality born from the partnership between the Castellare di Castellina winery and the legendary French family emblematic of wine, the Rothschilds, pays homage to the agricultural traditions of the territory with a powerful label, which however maintains the elegance and freshness typical of the winery's products.
The Ornello Rocca di Frassinello is born from a skillful blend of red grape varieties, where Sangiovese, the reference grape in Tuscany, joins three international varieties that feel at home here, Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines grow using the spurred cordon system in vineyards located about 90 meters above sea level, in soils that feature a subsoil rich in skeleton and clay. The grapes, once harvested and taken to the areas designated for winemaking at Rocca di Frassinello, ferment for 20 days in steel containers at controlled temperature, and then matures first for 6 months in barrique and then, after bottling, for another 6 months directly in glass.
The red wine Ornello presents itself to the eye with an intense and deep color, reminiscent of ruby tones. The nose reveals balsamic and spicy sensations, enriched by hints of fruity nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied, broad, and rich, with a smooth, almost silky drink that presents a rich and satisfying taste. A wine that is born as a tribute from the Rocca di Frassinello winery to the Maremma butteri, symbol of a hard and pure agriculture, where wine was one of the few pleasant breaks between hard work and well-deserved rest.
